Lady Nancy Astor was from Virginia. She was married to Waldorf Astor – 2nd Viscount Astor – and was the first woman elected to Parliament in Great Britain. She could be very caustic. Although married to Waldorf for nearly 50 years, she never returned his devotion and actually abandoned him during the last four years of their marriage while he was ill and dying. kqd
