Dr. Beverly Hall – former Superintendent of Atlanta Schools
Dr. Beverly Hall was in charge of the Atlanta school system for 10 years beginning in 1999. She was named Superintendent of the Year in 2009 by the American Association of School Administrators’ because of her “work”, which substantially improved Atlanta’s public school students test scores and graduation rates. In just one year, the scores in math went from 24% proficiency to 86%. As a result of her “successes”, Ms. Hall was consulted by Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) and Arne Duncan (U.S. Secretary of Education under Barack Obama)) in their efforts to improve public school education.
In gratitude for Dr. Hall’s illustrious results, during her 10 year tenure, she was awarded over $500,000.00 in bonus money, receiving $78,000.00 in 2009 alone. The school district also accrued additional federal dollars and grant money, based on those stellar improvements, as well.
On April 2, 2013 Dr. Hall surrendered herself at the Fulton County jail, charged with racketeering, making false statements, improperly influencing witnesses and taking by theft. She had resigned her position in mid-2011 as the states probe into the Atlanta school system’s testing procedures was coming to an end.
Dr. Hall and 180 educators, from 44 Atlanta schools, were charged with supplying standardized test answers to students or changing the answers the students had given, in order to improve the school systems scores. 35 were indicted and of the remaining 159 cases reviewed by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, 44 had their teaching licenses revoked, 100 got 2 year suspensions, 9 were suspended for under 2 years and no action was taken against 6 other educators.
Of the 35 who were indicted, 4 were high-level administrators, 6 were principals, 2 were assistant principals, 6 were testing coordinators and 14 were teachers. And, what a surprise! 28 of the 35 indicted were women. Liberated women without a shred of decency, who believed that the long-established rules of education did not apply to them, or their students, because they were patriarchal in nature and needed to be feminized. Unlike today, when the men ran the educational systems and kids had fathers they could identify and the kids learned to be literate and productive adults. Come hell or high water!
Not only did Ms. Hall, and her gang, deny the youngsters their right to be educated, she strove to enrich herself at their expense as well. The grand jury was so incensed by Dr. Hall’s despicable level of corruption that they recommended that her bond be set at 7.5 MILLION dollars! If convicted she could spend 45 years in jail. We can only hope.
