Shirley Jackson (1916-1965) – American Author

“The third baby is the easiest…You know, for instance, how you are going to look in a maternity dress about the seventh month, and you know how to release the footbrake on the baby carriage without fumbling amateurishly.”

Although I fault Ms. Jackson for deceptively creating the “sinister underside of small town America” through her writings (read my “Good Movies” page for more on this subject), her observations about motherhood still apply today. kqd
